Getting Started

How to obtain a New License:

  1. Register a FCC Registration Number (FRN) account with the Federal Communications Commission (FCC).

    1. Registration will provide you with an FRN number.  This is your personal identification number with the FCC to manage all future licenses with them.  If you already have skip to the next step.

    2. Click HERE to register an FRN account.

  2. Login to your FRN account with the FCC.  This allows you to manage your licenses accross multiple services (Add, Remove, Update, etc).  If you have forgotten your FRN number you can search for it below.

    1. Click HERE to login to your account.

    2. Click HERE to search for your FRN account

  3. Once you are logged into your account.  Click on “Apply for a New License”.

  4. Select “ZA – General Mobile Radio (GMRS)” from the drop down menu and click “continue”.

  5. Continue to complete the application.  Once fininshed you will need to pay the licensing fee of $70 to obtain and submit the license.

  6. The license application will be completed, callsign issued, and paperwork sent in the mail within 2-3 business days.  Once the license has been issued it is valid for a period of 10 years.
